Wildebeest (Black)
$1,000 (USD)
Connochaetes gnou
The Black Wildebeest can be found in both South Africa and Namibia. They can be easily distinguished between their blue cousins by their black bodies and blonde mane and tail. They also have a distinct line of hair that stands upright on their face.
Both males and females have horns, however the males have larger and heavier horns.
They travel in mostly either female or bachelor herds. There are territorial males who will maintain a territory, allowing female herds to pass freely. Herds are most active in the early morning and late afternoon. They are also very dependent on water and must drink regularly.
They are a very flighty animal and once aware of danger, will begin to run. Their stamina is nearly infinite, as they can run for miles.
